Don't!! Waste!! Your!! Vote!!

Friday, May 26, 2017

Don't worry, I'm not going to get all preachy and ramble about complicated politics and tell you who you should vote for, but instead I want to highlight the importance of voting in the General Election on June 8th 2017. That's just two weeks away.

As I'm only 17, I don't have the privilege to vote yet. That's exactly what I see it as though. A privilege. Not to mention it's extremely important. Especially if you're aged 18-24. This is our future hanging in the balance and it shouldn't be jeopardised because people can't be bothered. Or because people think their vote won't make a difference because "that person won't win anyway". Or because people "aren't into politics". You don't have to be into politics to appreciate how significant your vote really is in the grand scheme of things.

You don't have be an expert on politics just to take the time out to read the manifestos, pick a party you feel you agree with more, AND VOTE. Don't base your decision on what your parents think or what your mates think. Don't be swayed by everything you read or see in the media. And definitely don't use twitter as your only source of knowledge.
Do your own research and make your own choice.

You can't afford to take it for granted. Women didn't protest endlessly, throw themselves in front of horses and chain themselves to gates for you to decide not to have your say. We're lucky to live in a democratic country where people have the opportunity to vote because so many around the world could only dream of being in that position.

List Of Party Manifestos

Scottish National Party: https://www.snp.org/ (yet to be released)

I don't think it would be right for me to sit here and write lengths about why you should vote for Labour. That's why it's crucial that people get educated individually and make their own mind up. The whole purpose of having a democracy is so every single person has the opportunity to make their voices heard and the power to create change. You may think the government is a load of rubbish or that politics is boring but it has a huge impact on so many aspects of our lives. Our healthcare and our education and our employment is at stake.

The Leaders
Labour: Jeremy Corbyn
Conservatives: Theresa May
Liberal Democrats: Tim Farron
Scottish National Party: Nicola Sturgeon
Plaid Cymru: Leanne Wood
Green Party: Jonathan Bartley and Caroline Lucas
UKIP: Paul Nuttall

Another really good way of making your decision and finding out more is taking this quiz:
It asks you a bunch of different questions regarding the economy, environment, healthcare, social issues and immigration and it shows you the party you most identify with based on your answers and stances on different issues.

If you haven't already seen this gem floating around Twitter, you have to watch it. He puts it perfectly and if this doesn't make you want to vote I don't know what will:

So if you can, please get informed and VOTE.
